Update for the Go Digital or Go Dark campaign!

From the ANCA Newsletter on Old Forge’s The Strand:

So much more than a movie house! The Strand Theatre is a cornerstone of the Old Forge community. It means so much to so many people, and that is why a number of community organizations (CAP-21, Central Adirondack Association, VIEW, Town of Webb Historical Association, Kiwanis), as well as area businesses,  are working hard to ensure its survival.

Don’t miss out:A Strand Theatre 90th Anniversary Gala and Fundraiser is happening from6-8 p.m. this Thursday, July 25, at the Forge Knoll in Old Forge. After cocktails, food and live music under the festival tent, the celebration will move to the Strand for a video presentation. The benefit is part of a community effort to help fund the mandatory conversion to digital projection. Already, the industry-wide conversion has resulted in the demise of several Adirondack community theaters. The Strand will stand! Tickets are $50, available at www.cap-21.org and the Old Forge Information Center.

(Please note: The online fundraising goal of $125,000 is roughly half of the $275,000 total the theater needs to upgrade to digital. The rest of the funds will be raised through a mixture of loans, grants and major donors.)

The need: ”We need to convert the Strand to digital projection not only to be able to stay in business but because it has been an integral part of the community for 90 years and it would be a shame to lose it.  We are proud to be a part of the Strand’s history and feel that it is important to preserve it for many future generations to enjoy.” - Helen Zyma, Strand owner (along with husband Bob Card).
